Support Kidney and Diabetes Care at SHN
Scarborough has one of the highest rates of diabetes and chronic kidney disease in Ontario. At SHN, we’re responding with one of the largest nephrology programs in North America — but the demand for life-saving dialysis treatment continues to grow.
Your support helps fund expanded, culturally sensitive, and accessible dialysis care in Scarborough — care for one of Canada’s most diverse communities.
Scarborough hospitals have been left behind for decades, leaving us with aging hospitals and cramped procedure rooms. But these obstacles don’t deter us. They drive us forward.
Together, we can build a better future for kidney care in Scarborough.

Dialysis Expansion at General and Centenary Hospitals
Scarborough’s demand for dialysis care is rising fast. SHN is expanding and upgrading our dialysis centres to meet this urgent need—improving comfort, privacy, and safety for patients withv chronic kidney disease.
Renovating the Dialysis Unit at General Hospital
The current unit is overcrowded and outdated. With your support, we’re creating:
- More comfort – Brighter spaces, room for personal belongings, and a more welcoming environment.
- Greater safety – Increased spacing between stations to reduce infection risks.
- Improved spaces – Better staff facilities and workspaces to support exceptional treatment.
Dialysis Projects You’re Powering
Your generosity is driving real progress:
- Centenary Hospital – A new clinic with 21 treatment bays is under construction. Expanding capacity by 9 stations.
- General Hospital – A new isolation area with 12 dialysis stations for vulnerable patients is under construction.
- Future renovations – Upgrades to existing areas for a safer, more dignified patient experience.
