Research & Education at SHN
Scarborough faces a critical shortage of family doctors — but you can help change that. Over 120,000 people in Scarborough don’t have a family doctor. SHN is leading the charge to fix this — by building the Scarborough Health Centre of Excellence.
This is more than a building. It’s a bold, community-rooted solution to a growing healthcare crisis.
SHN is proud to be the anchor clinical partner for the University of Toronto’s new Scarborough Academy of Medicine and Integrated Health (SAMIH).
Located steps from Centenary Hospital, the new Centre of Excellence will be a training ground for doctors, nurses, and healthcare leaders — built in Scarborough, for Scarborough.
This will be SHN’s first-ever facility dedicated to education, research, and hands-on training. It will feature:
- A Family Medicine Teaching Unit
- Simulation labs and exam rooms
- Flexible learning spaces
- Research labs for innovation in primary care

It’s designed to keep students in Scarborough — and to keep doctors here after they graduate.
“This is how we will ensure Scarborough has the same access to healthcare, research, and clinical trials as the rest of Toronto.”
