When Sandy Zheng was first approached to volunteer on the Scarborough Health Network (SHN) Foundation Board of Directors, she hesitated. A powerhouse entrepreneur who has led multiple businesses in Scarborough for over twenty years—Sandy wasn’t sure she had the time to commit.

Sandy is the CEO of HT Perfect Group, a multifaceted corporation with a strong presence in the Chinese market across various sectors in Toronto. The group includes notable ventures such as Prime+ Care Health Centre Inc. and the beloved Scarborough staple, Perfect Chinese Restaurant. As a member of our Board of Directors, Sandy volunteers her time to support fundraising efforts, help develop strategic plans that align with the hospital’s needs and community priorities and helps ensure the Foundation has the necessary resources to achieve its mission.

“I am really busy,” Sandy recalls with a laugh. “What changed my mind was seeing the results,” she says. “When you see the real impact of your contributions and people being helped, it’s so meaningful. That’s what keeps me going.”

During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Sandy didn’t hesitate to give back. Through Prime + Care Health Centre Inc., she donated thousands of masks and PPE directly to SHN hospitals. She didn’t just send them off with a courier; she was there in person, handing out supplies to frontline staff herself.

“It was such a difficult time for everyone, and I saw how COVID was affecting everyone back home in China,” says Sandy. “But I just kept thinking of our frontline workers here, and If I can support them in any way, I will.”

Her generosity didn’t stop there. With the help of her team at Perfect Chinese Restaurant Sandy helped organize the donation of hundreds of dim sum meals for SHN staff members. Sandy is quick to acknowledge her team at Prime + Care Health Centre Inc., as well as her business partners at Perfect Chinese Restaurant — especially owner Sam — for making these acts of generosity possible.

“I can’t do it alone,” she said. “I have incredible business partners who care just as much as I do. It’s something we were proud to do together,” she says.

Beyond helping our hospitals through a pandemic, Sandy continues to support SHN year-round. Both HT Perfect Group and Perfect Chinese Restaurant have been dedicated sponsors of the annual Chinese Radiothon for five years. The Chinese Radiothon has helped raise over $1.7M over the years to enhance patient care in Scarborough. Sandy’s contributions also helped bring the new Northpine Diagnostic Imaging Department to life which recently opened in February 2025—home to Scarborough’s first-ever 3T MRI and an expanded breast clinic.

“My community has always supported me — that’s why I believe in giving back,” Sandy says. “It’s part of who I am, and I do it from the heart.”

This National Volunteer Week, we celebrate Sandy Zheng — not just for her leadership, but for the heart she puts into everything she does. Her story reminds us that when business and compassion come together, the entire community benefits.
