SHN Foundation is raising funds to bring Acessa ProVu® technology to Scarborough, helping women access a minimally invasive treatment option for uterine fibroids closer to home.
Uterine fibroids are the most common benign tumour affecting women, with more than 70% developing fibroids during their childbearing years. For many, symptoms can be life-altering, including pain, heavy bleeding, fertility challenges, and bladder issues.
Today, treatment options often require major surgery and lengthy recovery times. Many patients are referred outside Scarborough for advanced care, creating barriers related to travel, time away from work, and family responsibilities.
Acessa ProVu® offers a different approach. This minimally invasive technology treats fibroids without removing the uterus, allowing eligible patients to return home the same day and recover more quickly than with traditional surgery.
"With this new technology, women will come for the procedure and go home the same day. And the recovery is much faster,” says Dr. Caroline Huh, Obstetrics and Gynecology, SHN.
Bringing Acessa ProVu® to SHN will help expand access to innovative women's health care close to home, ensuring more patients can receive treatment in their own community.
Your support can help make this technology available to women across Scarborough and the eastern GTA.
