A Simple Project, a Big Impact
Anson Park students braid friendship into fundraising, raising $170 for SHN and school programs through handmade bracelets.

At Anson Park Public School, giving back came in the form of colourful threads, braids, and the spirit of friendship.

This past February, over 100 students from Grades 1 to 8 participated in a lunchtime bracelet-making fundraiser. Each student made one bracelet to keep and one to give, learning how to braid while contributing to a good cause. More than 340 bracelets were made and sold—two for $1—raising $170.

Half of the funds supported the school’s gardening initiative, while the other half was donated to SHN’s Love Scarborough campaign.

“We chose Love Scarborough because it really hit close to home,” said Jennifer Rogers, a teacher at Anson Park. “Many of our students were born at or have visited SHN hospitals, so there’s a real connection. Plus, with ‘love’ in the name and our fundraiser happening around Valentine’s Day, it felt like a perfect fit. We hope that when our students see a Scarborough hospital, they remember they played a small part in helping the people there.”

A simple project, a strong message—and a reminder that even small gestures can have a lasting impact.

Want to make a difference like Anson Park? Our Show Your Love program makes it easy for schools, workplaces, and individuals to host their own fundraisers in support of SHN. From bake sales to birthdays, every initiative brings us closer to a healthier Scarborough.

“We hope that when our students see a Scarborough hospital, they remember they played a small part in helping the people there.”
