SHN Foundation is pleased to share a recent distribution of $800,000 from the estate of an outstanding legacy donor, Friedrich Klein, to our SHN hospitals. Friedrich was a longstanding supporter of SHN, and to date has left $1.8 million in his estate to support our Scarborough hospitals – the largest in our history.

Friedrich received exceptional and compassionate care from our health care teams in medicine and palliative care. Dr. Nicholas Hartmann stayed by Friedrich’s side during his final days – listening, talking and helping to fulfill his final wishes. It was his gratitude for the world-class care he received from SHN’s doctors, nurses and other team members, that led him to leave the entirety of his estate to our hospitals.

A kind and gentle soul, Friedrich’s gift has left a lasting impression on all of us at SHN Foundation and has become the largest bequest in our history. We are incredibly grateful to Friedrich Klein and would like to take this opportunity to pay tribute to him for his legacy and commitment to health care in Scarborough.

Gifts like Friedrich’s truly demonstrate the passion and love our community has for their local hospitals, and how much they value the work our frontline health care workers do each and every day.
