The Challenge

SHN’s Centenary Hospital is the designated Cardiac Centre for the Scarborough– West Durham region, and we operate the second-largest ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI) program in Ontario. However, our capacity to care for critical cardiac patients is limited by the design of our Coronary Care Unit (CCU)–which had to relocate to an unsuitable space due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Heart disease is on the rise throughout Ontario, with our hospitals anticipating a significant increase over the next 5 years. But right now, our CCU is at capacity and will not be able to keep up with the increase without investment.

Your Impact

Your support will help create a state-of-the-art CCU that is purposefully designed to care for our most critical heart patients. With six additional beds, a larger footprint, and a procedure room in the unit to perform life-saving treatment immediately, we will be able to meet the growing demand for heart disease.

This priority project is critical to build a healthier Scarborough. With your support, we can ensure greatness rises in Scarborough.
