Teaching the Next Generation of Medical Professionals

Scarborough will soon be home to the new SHN Research and Education Centre, a premier medical school at the University of Toronto. SHN’s Education Centre will fill a critical need by training the next generation of medical professionals, with SHN as the anchor partner. Students will receive hands-on training and education at our Scarborough hospitals, including the SHN Research and Education Centre at our Centenary site.

The next generation of physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals will learn and train in Scarborough, to care for the growing and diverse community with compassion and excellence.

Meet Dr. Samir Grover, SHN’s first Executive Vice President of Education.

Groundbreaking Medical Research in Scarborough–for Scarborough

The newly-launched SHN Education Centre is focused squarely on achieving the vision to provide better health through research that matters to the community of Scarborough.

Research and innovation in community hospitals like SHN can contribute to many benefits, including improving patient care, ensuring access to new medicines and equitable models of care, and attracting and retaining talent. Having a focus on research also achieves the triple aim of enhancing the patient experience, improving the health of populations, and reducing healthcare costs.

In launching the SHN Education Centre, our network joins the ranks of the most prestigious health organizations in building a connected — but independently run — entity dedicated to the promotion of novel and impactful medical research.

Your Impact

You can help shape the future of healthcare by supporting the creation of the new SHN Research and Education Centre. It will be a new home for both students and faculty, and the newly-launched SHN Research Institute.

The Centre will be conveniently located at our Centenary Hospital campus — only a 10-minute bus ride for students from the University of Toronto Scarborough campus — and will feature advanced facilities for education, training, and collaboration.
