Over 1,100 fans packed the stands on July 13, 2024, for the Scarborough Shooting Stars’ Love, Scarborough basketball game, raising $15,000 for Scarborough hospitals. The Stars triumphed over the Edmonton Stingers with a 103-92 victory. Highlights from the game included a CEBL record-breaking performance by Cat Barber (#12), who scored 24 straight points and the game-winning bucket.

Beyond the game’s final buzzer, the event was a testament to the power of local support and the profound impact it can have on our community. This contribution will go a long way in supporting the vital healthcare services at Scarborough Health Network’s Birchmount, Centenary, and General hospitals, enhancing the care and resources available to patients in Scarborough.

The game was more than just a sporting event; it celebrated community, unity, and philanthropy. With appearances from local politicians, community leaders, SHN staff members, and supporters, the atmosphere was electric.

A half-time cheque presentation with Scarborough Shooting Stars owner and Love, Scarborough ambassador Sam Ibrahim, showcased the power of Scarborough institutions coming together to support equitable healthcare in the community.

“I’ve been through the medical system myself and imagining what is possible if our hospitals had more is really inspiring, and I’m glad the Scarborough Shooting Stars could be a part of that,” said Sam Ibrahim.

Shooting Stars guard Nicholas Lewis (#0) also showcased his commitment to supporting his hometown and SHN hospitals through  his own fundraising efforts and by helping with the games promotion.

This event will help support advancing healthcare services, including the groundbreaking doctor-at-the-door emergency department at Centenary Hospital and the brand new Northpine Diagnostic Imaging department opening later this year at Scarborough General Hospital.
